The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently looking into a shooting involving the LaGrange Police and a man carrying a machete.
The incident took place in the pre-dawn hours on Tuesday, when a man was spotted down the street with the bladed instrument.
LPD Corporal David Horseman responded to the call and made contact with the armed man, identified as Ronald McCormick.
According to CBS42, McCormick refused to stop, prompting Horseman to request backup.
McCormick, who is wanted on three superior court bench warrants for possession of methamphetamine, cruelty to children in the 1st degree, obstruction, battery, and possession of methamphetamine and drug-related items, refused to stop and began running towards Greenville Street, across from the government building.
When backup arrived, McCormick was ordered to drop the machete but he refused. A taser was deployed but to little effect as McCormick continued advancing.
Fearing for his safety and the safety of his fellow officers, one lawman opened fire on McCormick.
The suspect was taken to a regional hospital, and his condition is currently unknown.
