A police officer was killed in the aftermath of a shooting that took place outside of the Pentagon, according to sources close to the incident.
The shooting took place earlier today at the local transit station near the Department of Defense headquarters, and was officially dubbed a “shooting event.”
Two people were initially reported wounded, though it has now become apparent that an officer involved succumbed to his wounds.
The shooting triggered a lockdown at the Pentagon, which was ultimately lifted.
“The Pentagon has lifted the lock down and has reopened,” the Pentagon Force Protection Agency tweeted. “Corridor 2 and the Metro entrance remains closed. Corridor 3 is open for pedestrian traffic.”
According to NBC 3, the Pentagon Metro area where the shooting took place is currently being treated as an active crime scene.
