A teacher at IMG Academy in Bradenton has been arrested and charged with sexual battery, traveling to meet a minor, and transmission of harmful material to a minor, according to a press release issued by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
Taylor J. Anderson, 38, a teacher at the sports preparatory school, turned herself in to Sheriff’s Deputies Monday night, following a week-long investigation of allegations that she was engaged in a sexual relationship with a student, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Administrators at the school had heard rumors that Anderson was involved sexually with a student. The student confirmed the rumors to school staff, who then notified the Sheriff’s Office Crimes Against Children Unit, the release states.
After the student admitted to having sex with Anderson, the teacher was no longer allowed on campus and the school fired her from her teaching position, sheriff’s officials say.
Anderson declined to answer detectives’ questions, but a search warrant produced enough data from her cell phone to develop arrest warrants, sheriff’s deputies said. She was not home when detectives attempted to serve the warrants and she briefly traveled out of state before turning herself in to authorities on Monday, authorities said.
