Special police officer working library fatally shot by retired MPD lieutenant during training

A DC special police officer was killed in a friendly fire incident at a library on Thursday, authorities report.

The female officer, who is assigned to a library, was killed during a training exercise held in the Anacostia Library.

The individual responsible is a retired police lieutenant, who was conducting the training.

All that is currently known is that the lieutenant’s weapon discharged, and the fired round struck the library officer.

According to WAVY, MPD said it was working with its partners at the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia in the investigation into exactly what happened.

The retired police lieutenant has since been questioned and an investigation is ongoing.
