A man is dead after police say he attempted to rob an armed individual at a Roseville car wash.

Police believe that about 7 p.m. Tuesday a patron at the Wash Pointe Car Wash, 26015 Gratiot Avenue, was approached by two people, according to a release from the Roseville Police Department.

The two produced a handgun and attempted to rob the male patron, police said. The patron was armed and exchanged gunfire with one of the suspected would-be robbers.

One of the two, a young man about 18-years-old, was shot in the exchange and later pronounced dead at a hospital, Roseville Deputy Police Chief Mitch Berlin said in an email.

A handgun was found next to the man who died, Berlin said.

The incident remains under investigation and further information was not immediately available.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Roseville Police Department at 586-447-4484.
