A Montgomery Township woman is facing murder charges for the deaths of her two children, who authorities found Tuesday morning in the back of a vehicle in neighboring Hillsborough, Somerset County authorities announced.

Yuhwei Chou, 36, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of her daughter Samantha Ross, 7, and son Paul Ross, 10 months, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office said. She lives in Montgomery’s Skillman neighborhood.

Hillsborough police were called to Mountain View Road at about 7:40 a.m. for a reported disabled motor vehicle which had left the road, the prosecutor’s office said. The office did not say who made the call.

Officers found Chou with the vehicle, and her two children secured in a booster seat and a baby seat in the back. “Officers observed that the children were bound and restrained” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

They were pronounced dead at the scene.

The prosecutor’s office did not say how the children were apparently killed, or a suspected motive. An ongoing investigation found Chou was responsible, the office alleged. Autopsies are pending.

Investigators wrote in court records that the murders occurred at about 2 p.m. Monday. Chou was charged at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Chou will be taken to the Somerset County jail once she is medically cleared from a local hospital, the prosecutor’s office said.
