The alleged active shooter incident in Hawkins County, Tennessee, was a hoax, according to local authorities.
Multiple agencies were dispatched to Volunteer High School and students were evacuated to a nearby National Guard Armory after reports of an armed individual surfaced.
The caller allegedly told dispatch that he had been bullied and harassed by popular students and that he would emerge from a bathroom with a handgun, intent on taking out students.
According to WCYB, HCSO Sheriff Ronnie Lawson would later report that the entire thing was made up.
“This call was a hoax,” Lawson said.
The local school district also released a statement.
“The situation at Volunteer High School has been contained,” the statement read. “Students at all other school sites are safe and the lockdown on the east end has been lifted. We are not releasing students from other school sites at this time. More information will be forthcoming – TEMA will be releasing a statement within the hour.”
Police and emergency personnel have responded to Volunteer High School after reports of an active shooter at the school, according to the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office.
All schools in the area have been placed on lockdown and students from Volunteer High are being evacuated to the National Guard Armory.

At 9:03 a.m. Hawkins County Emergency Communications 911 tweeted the following message:
“Hawkins County Emergency Communications is requesting everyone not to call 911 or Central Dispatch unless you have an emergency. If you have a student that attends Volunteer High School, please report to the Mount Carmel Army National Guard at 399 Highway 11 W.”
