Three people have been arrested in Schuylkill County on charges of child abuse.

According to Fox 43, Todd Richter, his partner Jennifer Yost and her mother Wendy Yost were arrested after police said they had locked three of Richter’s children in the attic of their family home in Minersville.

An affidavit from the Minersville police revealed that the children, two boys ages 12 and 11 and a girl, 9, were reportedly kept in the attic for two years and deprived of regular food and water. A fourth child, a 3-year-old girl, also lived in the home, and appeared to not have suffered any mistreatment.

Minersville police said that the children told them they were given scraps to eat, sometimes covered in mold, and that they were subjected to beatings and other physical abuse. All three children showed signs of severe injuries and malnutrition.

The investigation began when the 12-year-old boy was found out on the street by a woman, who noticed bruises and asked if he needed help. After police were called, the boy told them of his siblings who were still locked in the home following his escape.

All three adults were charged with endangering the welfare of children, aggravated assault, harassment, and other charges, and bail has been denied. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 13.
