Bomb squad investigating car, building in East Austin; 1 in custody

The Austin Police bomb squad was called out Tuesday afternoon to investigate suspicious items inside a car and adjacent building in East Austin, police said.

Police responded to the incident around 4:20 p.m. saying there was “heavy police presence” near East Fourth and Allen streets, just south of Cesar Chavez Street.

In a tweet, police said they have one man in custody and the bomb squad is searching the involved vehicle and building.

The public is being asked to avoid the area.
