A former Alabama substitute teacher has pleaded guilty to charges of having sex with two students.
According to court documents, Whitley Mizzell, of Ragland, Al., pleaded guilty Monday to three counts of performing a sex act or deviant sex act with a student, the St. Clair Times reported.
Mizzell, 32, worked as substitute teacher in the St. Clair County system in Alabama. She was arrested on July 31, 2019, accused of multiple counts of sexual intercourse with two students, the local ABC-affiliate reported at the time.
The students’ names were not released because they were under 19 at the time of the alleged incidents.
Mizzell faced two indictments, one involving two counts with one student and another for allegedly having sex with the other student.
On Monday she pleaded guilty to all three counts, and will serve her sentences concurrently.
Circuit Court Judge Bill Weathington sentenced her to a 10-year split sentence.
She will serve two years in the Alabama Department of Corrections, followed by three years of supervised probation, according to plea documents.
If she violates her probation she could spend the remainder of her sentence in prison.
She will also be required to register as a sex offender.
After her plea she was taken into custody by St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, according to St. Clair County District Attorney Lyle Harmon.
